Charles R. Schwartzapfel, AIA is a Registered Architect and a Licensed General Contractor. Since 1985, he has designed and/or built over 2 million square feet of high end residential, corporate and retail environments, along with several hospitality and educational projects.

Our main office is located in Downtown Manhattan (25 Peck Slip, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10038 --- (212) 869-1666) and our show house is located in Smithtown, Long Island.

His designs have won 7 National Awards, including two First Place awards in the Millenium Design Competition. He has been published in several International Design Magazines, Women's Day Magazine, published the first place winning Master Bathroom renovation as well as the kitchen & family room for the same residence.

Charles graduated from the New York Institute of Technology, School of Architecture in 1982. He then served a three-year apprenticeship with Norman Jaffe, a renowned Architect of residential & commercial masterpieces who was a student of both Frank Lloyd Wright and Phillip Johnson. Charles was an integral part of the design team for the Gates of the Grove Synagogue in East Hampton, NY. Many of Charles' first innovative design ideas were incorporated into these projects.

In the spring of 1999, he was chosen to design the interior renovation of the middle school commissioned by The Hewitt School. Over the coarse of the following school years, Charles has continued to provide the school with his unique design solutions. His designs of the kindergarten and kitchen were innovative and generated in record time, facilitating accelerated construction scheduling and enabling the school to open for their fall semester on time.

In 1996, Charles started working in the hospitality area. Projects in both Europe and the United States have established CRS Designs as a leader in the field. In 1997, Charles transformed the Iroquois Hotel, located in midtown Manhattan, from a typical decaying 100 year-old accommodation, to a small luxury hotel status. In 1999, using state-of-the-art 3-dimensional rendering, CRS Designs was able to create a virtual 360-degree space design of another midtown Manhattan hotel.

As the boom generation of the United States ages, their desire to remain active and independent has not changed. Charles renovated a home anticipating this trend. With easy to reach storage space, one level living, and safety first bathrooms, this house is one you can grow old in elegantly. In 1995, he was chosen to be the Master Plan Designer for a La Quinta California home commissioned by Kasmar Publications, Inc. Charles oversaw and organized the individual room designs submitted by 12 national award-winning designers along with the landscaping and site plan into a final design. The completed house design was published in 1996.
